The Last Graze Kosciuszko Brumby

Medium: Oil on Aluminium Composite Panel

Dimensions: 35 cm (W) x 70 cm (H) x 0.3 cm (D)

Framing: Unframed

Description: Inspired by the recent controversies surrounding the wild brumby culls in Kosciuszko National Park, this original oil painting contrasts the quiet, timeless presence of a grazing wild horse with the dramatic, shifting skies of the High Country.

Built layer by layer using traditional indirect painting methods, the piece combines fine brushwork in the delicate foliage and subtle atmospheric glaze with expressive palette knife impasto across the sunlit eucalyptus bark and rocky foreground terrain. The warm, golden light catching the ancient gum tree stands in stark, poignant contrast to the looming storm clouds behind—symbolising both the beauty and the fragility of these iconic animals in the Australian landscape.
